In The Dividing Line, Reinike transforms the horizon from a boundary between earth and sky into a metaphorical dividing line between the tangible world and the intangible realm of the spirit.
The dark blue figures standing in the distance gaze toward the faint glow on the horizon, witnessing either sunrise or sunset and the continual cycle of life. Standing shoulder to shoulder, they represent a timeline of humanity, reminding us of the connection between all people and the passage of time itself.
The lighter foreground figures represent the days of the week, immersed in the activities and relationships of daily existence rather than the larger passage of history. At the center stands a golden figure, the color of the earth itself—a reminder that we come from the earth and ultimately return to it in the continuing cycle of life.
