Eon

Eon is built around a tension between the earthly and the infinite. The deep blue field suggests the depths of an ocean or the expanse of space. Within its contours is the outline that looks like a seated pharaoh. Opposite this blue expanse, a golden area suggests both coastline and human form. Within its surface are markings that resemble traces of an archaeological dig or perhaps they are the intricate pathways of a circuit board in the figure's mind.

A single red dot punctuates the composition. Against the expansiveness of the blue and the complexity of the golden form, its scale is strikingly small. Eon brings these possibilities together without resolving them.

This painting became the inspiration for Reinike's Arch Series. Ocean and space, ancient ruler and abstract landscape, archaeology and technology exist simultaneously within the painting. The title suggests a scale of time in which civilizations, landscapes, technologies, and human lives become part of something vastly larger.
