Garland

The female figure is based on a design from a Greco-Roman amphora, with her profile and gathered hair reinforcing the classical character of the work. Swirls of red blossoms introduce an Art Nouveau sensibility—decorative, rhythmic, and animated. The flowers act as ornament, creating a garland of movement around the figure.

The background’s washes of blue, gold, and green blur the boundary between figure and air, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. Heavy impasto gives the entire surface a pronounced, sculptural texture.
