In His Image

In His Image is a surreal exploration of creation and humanity's place within the natural world. A Tree of Life rises through the composition, its leaves and branches surrounding an arch that contains clouds and another, smaller tree. Prominent roots extend into a dark band of earth beneath the tree, grounding the image in the physical world.

Within the band of earth are tools and objects associated with human work and creation—a wrench, saw, spatula, rolling pin, laptop, and other implements used for building, making, cooking, and creating. These objects represent the many ways in which human beings use their hands and minds to shape the world around them.

The title refers to the idea that humanity was created in God's image. The Tree of Life, the world contained within the central arch, and the tools of human endeavor come together to explore the connection between divine creation and the creative nature of humanity itself.
