Labyrinth is built around a series of nested architectural forms. A large arch frames a church steeple, and within the steeple another arch opens onto blue sky and clouds. Around this central structure, black lines move across the surface in winding, maze-like paths, creating a sense of enclosure and complexity.
The earthy green and brown tones are interrupted by an area of lighter, windblown color, adding movement to the otherwise structured composition. The repeated arches draw the eye progressively inward, from the maze-like surface to the steeple and finally to the open sky beyond.
The labyrinth is not simply a maze of pathways. Within it is a clear destination: an opening to the sky, framed and repeated through the architecture of the painting.
