Unintended opens with a formal architectural structure of three stone arches and columns, crowned by a painted cornice that continues the composition beyond the main canvas.
The planned symmetry and ordered lines of the architecture establish a sense of structure, but the vines have other ideas. The life of the painting comes from what refuses to stay within the plan. The vines climb the columns, twisting upward and threading themselves across the arches as if claiming the architecture for their own.
Reinike has created a humorous statement about orderly man-made architecture and the unpredictable dictates of nature.
