Bourbon and Leather

Bourbon and Leather suggests atmosphere and sensory pleasure. The rich colors of well-worn leather and amber bourbon also evoke the scent of the aged leather and the rich aroma of the bourbon.

In this work, w.e. pugh departs from his more familiar palette, layering deep reds, burnt oranges, and golden ochres against a dark background. The surface is constructed from hundreds of circles, creating a physical texture that shifts with the changing light. This work is a striking example of Pugh’s signature mark-making technique, where individual gestures accumulate into a complex and dynamic surface.
