Soaring

Books and CDs scatter across Reinike’s familiar “game board of life” — a checkered ground where choices, chance, and consequence play out. The books lie open like wings, their pages filled with marks that suggest words without resolving into readable text. One of the books says “Soar” and has a pair of angel wings below the title. Another shows a Tree of Knowledge within an arch, with the title “Legacy Untouched” — an allusion to an earlier painting by Reinike.

The CDs offer a different kind of promise. Their information is contained within their surfaces, accessible only through technology, reflecting a growing dependence on machines to unlock what they hold. One CD holds a "Britannica," another label reads "If Only," a third CD says "Overload" and bears the artist’s signature.

Together, the two forms of media create a tension between knowledge that can be opened and explored directly and knowledge that requires another means of access.
