Equanimity in the Orchestra

"Equanimity In the Orchestra"  (below right) was the precursor to Illuminated Musicians (below left.) While not exactly a study, it was the original concept on which Johnson elaborated in the larger painting.

The handling of the musical notes and background is much looser than it is in the later work. The emphasis is in the foreground musicians and the quiet composure they display.
